Hey, remember when a fantasy series that had started out really well got popular, the author decided it didn't need to be edited anymore, and then eventually an entire book got published where basically nothing happened, but then a new author came out with a new breakout series that was fast-paced and things happened?

Those were good times. Good times.

Yours is the first negative review I've seen. Everyone else is all "omg, shit's happening now!"

And the positive reviews baffle me, because the subtitle of this book could have been "OMG, shit's happening... in the next book!".

To be fair, I am not a big fan of the series to begin with, but I found this book especially disappointing. The first half was much stronger, and promised so much that the second half failed to deliver on.

He's really getting the pieces in place for the big showdown that's going to happen in the next book, eh?

PS thank you for shoring up my crumbling "not reading this now!" resolve after all the omgs and wows and holy shits.

You are Diogenes with his lantern, looking for an honest (negative) review.

What, you're telling me that five books in, the frozen zombies still haven't arrived?

I predict the series will end with: Frozen Zombies Invade, Everybody Dies.

No no, there are frozen zombies in this one too. In the Prologue. Again.

(I do not consider this a spoiler, because that bit did read like "Hey, remember that the big threat in this world is frozen zombies? Here's your reminder.")

(For all that, I am enjoying it (up to one third of it now), because there are still some storylines I care about.)

In the prologue meaning only in the prologue?

Well, I think not only in the prologue, actually. One of the characters is trying to raise some of them to talk to them; he hasn't been successful so far but from the way things are going, he will be before the end of the book.

(Also, the "winter is coming" bit? Winter has come, so there's that.)

I guess we can only hope that GRRM will die and Brandon Sanderson gets to finish the series, EH? EH.
