I've had my Mythwear NERV bag for... gods, ten years now. It finally started to deteriorate last year and its decline is accelerating. I'm tempted to replace it with something substantially similar, given that it does what I need and has held up through a decade of abuse and neglect, but if anyone has any suggestions for a replacement, I'll take them. I prefer messenger/courier bags to backpacks, and its primary uses are to carry cards, game-related-stuff, and books to/from the card shop, and to carry books and personal electronics when traveling. Laptop bags need not apply.

I was looking at ThinkGeek's Bag of Holding Messenger Bag for a diaper bag, but it appears to be out of stock. After looking at about a million bags that didn't fit my specifications (messenger style, no velcro closure on main flap, big enough for a bunch of baby crap, not girly for the love of god, etc) I think I'll be buying this one once it's back in stock. It's pricey, but I've heard good things about it.

I'm a fan of going overkill, myself. Because 10 years is not nearly long enough...

My Waterhouse bag is pretty okay, but probably overexpensive for what it is. Tom Bihn has good messenger-style bags, but I don't know if the size/style you're looking for is one they'd have.

Another friend recommended one off Tom Bihn as well. I don't mind paying for quality, but durability is more important than features -- it's replacing a single-pocket, no-frills canvas bag I got for $30 at an anime con ten years ago. Something like this (http://www.tombihn.com/page/001/PROD/200/TB0202) seems suitable.

Frankly, I'd just buy the same thing again, but Mythwear went out of business last year anyway.

At first I read this as "Tom Bihn bags are overkill for me," but I think maybe you were explaining why you don't need anything more than that? At any rate, I think Tom Bihn bags are probably about as good as anything out there, and not all that cheap, either.

Ah, didn't quite mean that. Was just musing while I looked them over.

Probably will end up going with one purely on the recommendations. The price point is high-ish but reasonable and that's what paychecks are for.

Or for a lot cheaper: http://cheaptotes.com/gusset_canvas_tote.html

Those are totes cheap totes!

I am really happy I got to write that sentence in context. You have made my evening.
